Music Monday, a bit late…

I’m behind on posting! Here’s Monday’s post that I wrote but never put it out there…..

For the past week, I’ve been thinking a lot about things that bring me joy. Have you ever made a list of things that bring you joy that are not attached to another person? Often when I ask someone what brings them joy, they respond with things like “my husband” or “my dog.” The problem with that is that other living things are temporary. What if your dog dies or your spouse leaves? Will your life then have no joy left? It’s a valid concern.

I think it’s really important to have things in your life that bring you joy, that are permanent. Don’t get me wrong, I still think and expect that your spouse or your cat or your best friend will bring you joy, I’m just pointing out the importance of having something that is permanent, something that no one can take away. I’ve found myself alone in my life so many times, searching for what will bring me happiness. I think that number one my list has always been music. I can listen to music and find joy whether I’m with someone or alone. It can make me cry, bring back memories, make me dance and even yes, bring me joy!

Today, I challenge you to tell me what constant in your life brings you joy? That go to thing that you can always turn to when you need a pick me up?

I have a few other things on my list too, things that don’t require another person…a bath with essential oils, doing my nails, dancing, walking in the park and going for a bike ride, meditation….

No matter what mood I’m in or what is going on in my life, this song always makes me smile. I LOVE the message in it. It’s the constant search in this life for happiness, we are all on a journey, searching for our joy. I have a goal, the goal is the day when I can sit back and say, yes, I am content here. They say that the life is about the journey and not the destination. I try so hard to enjoy the journey but I have such an intense list of destinations that I want to get to!

This song reminds me that we all feel that way, we all just want to be “fine” and we attempt to get closer to it all the time. So, I will continue to journey on attempting, reaching every day, to get closer to “fine.”
